oks, jonsparrow i know, but, i think about this and maybe is good start the locks with two-strand twists and to keep the locks loocking natural, maintains them as a freeformer. Still the original grid pattern to rely on, but because locks crawl during freeforming, the pattern will alter myself to resemble a more natural dreadlocks.

you can fin d all the info you need about neglect locks on this forum, believe me.
All you need to do is wash you hair with resedue free shampoo and let your hair lock on its own.
Look through the FAQ section, i'm sure there is stuff there that can help you
