Re: …

" QUOTE "

Huh, a considerate Christian. How refreshing.

How do you stand on different religions and homosexuality?

Hear me out on this. And don't hear what I'm not saying. I don't imply things. I'm often too dense to radar implications so I usually don't speak using them.

I believe homosexuality is immoral and I believe that Jesus is the only way to God. I feel free saying this because I believe God has set a standard for us. That standard is to be perfect in love. We have all fallen short of this standard. A Christian being judgemental and condescending is not being perfect in love. A man that rapes a woman is not acting in perfect love. Corporate America abusing hard workers for personal gain is not a demonstration of perfect love, and so on. This broken conduct takes various forms, but all has the same outcome: it fails to perfectly love God and it fails to perfectly love people. And loving God and loving people sums up the entire list of commandments in the Bible[read Matthew 22:36-40.]

We ascribe certain levels of demerit to what we consider immoral or wrong or sinful; whatever you call it. There is only a very thin line between me, who is a young adult posting a religious thread on KL, and a middle eastener setting off a car bomb. I can't be prideful enough to say that the roles couldn't so easily be switched. What is the difference between a prostitute and the cop(with a secret extra-marital affair) that arrests her? None really. Read Ezekial 36:17. It says our conduct, which is evil(short of God's standard of perfect love), is the equivalent of a bloody menstrual pad. It doesn't imply some of our conduct. It doesn't underline or bolden homosexuality, murder, lying or stealing, or anything else. It speaks of human conduct as a whole.

In short I'll close with one line. A homosexual person is as wrong as the heterosexual person(claiming to be a Christian or not) that cannot show the homosexual person perfect love.

did you hear at all what the man said or did you assume it was all about being gay and shut out the rest of the message? You did noit speak to the point, perhaps you need to listen again.

Re: What is your first thought when...

Atramp are you speaking to me or to Jops? I didn't listen to Dan Savage until after my post. I was speaking directly to Jops post on page 1.

Re: What is your first thought when...

What misunderstanding do you see?

And a quick side note: I didn't want this thread to become a pissing contest to theologically prove "my points" and "disprove" the points of another. God and all the reaches of His being are much more than can be contained in a theological debate. All I want to know is the Church's effect on society. We are loved by many and hated by many. I want to know how we're important to those who love us and how we're destructive to those who hate us. Jops asked me how I felt about homosexuality. I told him. I don't have to back my statement. It's not my obligation. What do you believe about how the sky gains its blue pigmentation? To that you would say who cares...its blue. Not all beliefs need backing, and it doesn't make me closed minded to not provide backing support. It actually allows my mind to intake new ideas because I don't hold up a barrier of "backing support".

But please tell where you think I've misunderstood something. I really want to hear the other side of things so that I can become a better adjusted individual.

I misunderstood your post to be in context of the video. I did not mean to suggest you misunderstood. I think I have been fairly clear about how I understand christianity, throughout the philosophy section. It can be palatable, helpful, disgusting, violent, peaceful, painful, enlightening, inhibiting, problematic, misleading, educational, paralyzing, vindictive, ... it's all about perception which is extremely individual. can be great, can be awful. There are all kinds of people who have all kinds of explanations for all kinds of behavior.

Re: What is your first thought when...

Lol. It seems we're both full of misunderstanding today, eh? Thank you for all this discussing. I enjoy it. I like breaking down walls of prejudice(not saying that you're a prejudice person...I don't even know you) in my life and the lives of others that are willing. It's been fun for me. I hope it has been for you as well.

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." --Ghandi

1.) What are your thoughts on Jesus?
2.) What are your thoughts on Christians?

(I am not starting this thread to be evangelical. I am here to be condescending or judgemental. I simply want honest conversation.)

1. Putting aside the technical information can't see anyone having a reason for being non supportive of a character like jesus. A strong figure for love, understanding, cooperation, etc.. Don't think its really that common for people exhibiting those traits to be menacing to the furtherment of humanity.

2. People are people. Classifications like this don't help determine whether a person is "good" or "bad". e.x. Everyone thinks a nazi is a bad thing. The nazi movement was terrible but that doesn't mean every nazi is bad. we've all heard stories of families in hiding being found and the soldier just keeps moving on.

My take on that is, the guidelines and life rules created by Jesus are a very good way to lead your life, but the people who claim to be Jesus' followers are slacking and not what they say they are, and have no desire to completely comply with these guidelines. They just want to pick and choose the ones that are easiest for them to do and think that that is good enough.
