 More Trees - Perception

So I'm sure everyone has heard the saying
"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a noise?"

If no one is around to perceive something, does it happen? Is there even a tree?

Life could be a stage and nothing visual goes on outside of your sights at all time. And no sounds outside of our ear pitch. But we wouldn't know.

Your idea of a book could be my water visually because we are perceiving them differently. But we were taught they were the same things, so we couldn't know.

These are just thoughts I had as a kid and when I bun. emoticon

I'd like your opinions, I'm taking a philosophy course next year and I need to get a better understanding of this area thanks. emoticon

Thankfully, after a short while humans develop this thing called "Object permanence". There's a good reason

Re: More Trees - Perception

i would love to see a book that takes the form of it's container... just a personal wish.

BG already said, most of us develop object permanence after a time. here's some more fodder for your confusion: consider the colors that humans experience and that it's due to a very limited spectrum of light we can sense. think of much more is going on generally than we can easily perceive. are you interested in all knowledge, or in that which is humanly knowable?

Re: More Trees - Perception

I'm red green color blind. You know those circles filled with many different colored dots inside of them that have a pattern that form a number. Most people will look at one pattern and see a number like 57 or something. I'll see a clear 21 or something like that.

This doesn't mean I can't tell between red and green, it's just that my brain perceives these colors differently then most people. I will never know your red or your green, and vice versa.
