New neglecter, tams, baking soda, drying the hair out, and basics of all kinds

Hi ya'll, I'm semi new, used to have backcombed locks for three years. Now im starting over neglect

My hair is a little over a foot long

I've been using dr bronners for about a month every other day. but will now be switching to baking soda and salt spray
Whats been good for people when in the beginning stages of locks? Every 3 days? once a week? my scalp can get greasy but I want to train it out

I'm also curious about tams. Should I get a looser or tighter one?

my hair texture is thin and very smooth/fine. I've been trying to dry it out with salt spray but still only two major knots seem to be forming. Is there anything I can do to encourage dry hair?

lastly: how much baking soda vs. how much water in the mix?

Re:

I think I washed my hair about every three days at first, whatever suits, and used residue free baby shampoo but baking soda's fine.
As for the tam,I don't know and I've never used salt spray. Good luck!
