Excellent debunking of creationist urban myths

Enjoyed the vid. The saving grace of scientific method is that sooner or later dogmatic ideas of some scientists get called on the carpet.
I'd only take issue with the implication that "all creationists" are purposely misleading. (Granted I "gleaned" this) I think most are more likely "believers" and/or even worse, Repeaters.

Re: Excellent debunking of creationist urban myths

I'm bored so I'm gonna jump on this thread.

If creationism does not explain how we got here then what does? What other religious ideas or scientific evidences provide a clear answer to the "how'd we get here" question? And do these conclusions remove all doubt or is there still room for debate?

it sounds like you're implying that if we can't find a better answer we have to accept the first one as true.

If i point at a random star and say there are planets orbiting it, i saw it in a dream, then im probably talking bullshit. The lack of someone around with the ability to prove me wrong doesnt change that.

sometimes you've got to accept that there's not someone with a definate answer.

The science community's conclusions are close enough to being unanimous that the big bang actually happened, and that evolution made life out of something so primitive you can't really call it something that's alive.
The finer details of abiogenesis making the chemicals around capable of evolving is something they haven't ironed out all the flaws of but they've made significant progress.
What happened before the big bang is a bit hard to determine without the ability to time travel but the a lot of money is going into researching it (CERN LHC etc).

I find the ideas reasonable enough and the gaps to be an essential part of anything thats claiming to have found the truth through what's essentially detective work being done billions of years after the events.

I believe I am equally bored. As far as other religions go: most religions believe a 'God' or higher being created all things and so ANY religion is as good as 'Creationism' at explaining how we got here. No amount of pseudo science can make creationism a better argument because it still boils down to faith i.e. there is no evidence for it. Thus creationism and all other religious arguments are incapable of really being involved in a serious debate as anything you say about it can neither be proved or disproved.

I'm certainly not trying to stop anyone having faith but I think it's pretty stupid to start claiming that it's a science and slap a label such as 'creationism' on it.

Re: Excellent debunking of creationist urban myths

there are standards and guidelines and certain criteria that need to be met in order to be labeled "science", intelligent design fails to meet any of that.

evolution is the theory with the MOST empirical, scientific data to support it, in which the majority of the scientific community has agreed.

no other theory meets or surpasses the level of scientific evidence that evolution has reached.

i think EVOLUTION is the only theory that should be taught at length in science classes.

^ Agreed.

I think only things with certainty should be taught. Because we lack a definite answer, encouraging curious minds to question and research for themselves will (in my opinion) make for more open-minded and bullshit-immune folk.

well what do you mean by certainty luncho. the whole point of science is that nothing is certain, its all statistical probabilities.
