Re: What is your first thought when... i love seeing Christians argue over their interpretations of scripture...
none of which, by the way, was written by the hand of Jesus.. and most of which was written either before his birth, or 60 years after his death by people that never knew him.

Re: What is your first thought when... Jesus: Might be he existed, but dont believe he was more than a normal person. Maybe he had a wise and good way of thinking and ppl made a bigger story of it than it really was. Later on i believe some saw the opportunity to control ppl by scaring them with talk of heaven and hell. "Donate money and do you prayers you will go to heaven, or else..."
Christians: Hmm, think all the rules stops many from seeing the good in it. Also all the extreme interpratations of the Bible is kind of scary.
Many things just doesnt work in theese days society. If you look at the 10 commandments, hmm if i remember them
1. Believe in no other Gods than me
Makes me go, wtf, if there is no other Gods according to this God, then why would he point out the obvious?
2. Do not use Gods name wrong
Why not? Its just words. If i dont mean anything wrong with it, whats the problem? If this God exists, he knows what im thinking anyway, so i can go silence but have all kinds of sick thoughts in my mind.
3. No working on sunday
Many ppl have to work on all kinds of holy days, or does this God want all hospitals, old ppl homes etc just stop on theese days?
4. Honour your father and mother
Well, if your father raped you and your mother watched, then what? Extreme i know, but it happens all to often theese days...
5. You shall not kill
No you sholdnt, but in some cases i agree with death penalty
6. No adultery
Hmm, today ppl have relationships where its ok being with other ppl... but the bottom idéa is good, works in a perfect world. Everybody !@#$ up tho, one way or another, its human.
7. No stealing
From the rich and give it to the poor? Robin Hood was always my hero
8. Tell no lie
Sometimes it more cruel to tell the truth than a so called white lie. And today, how many can truthfully say they never ever told a lie, really?
9. Not want your neighbours wife
First i oppose the way its written from only a mans point of view, tho i get the message. Today, is it really that wrong to meet someone when you still are in a relationship, fall in love, break the old up and initiate a new relationship. Happends all the time. According to God, you should stay tho your heart says someting else?
10. Not want what others have
Agree with this one actually. But you can read it in so many diffrent ways. Some of my goals in life is created from watching what others have. I want what they have. But i guess this one means i shouldnt take what they have from them just because i want it, and that i agree to.
I might be way off and uneducated, I didnt do any sunday school and i havent read up on the Bible, but this is how i think.
And i admit i google the commandments
I believe in treating ppl like you self want to be treatend. I believe in always trying to do good, and to do your best for yourself and others. I dont believe we need rules and a belief in a higher power to do that.
… well the ten commandments are from early judaism, and it started off polytheist. I think when they left egypt they started focusing on the one that rescued them and decided to devote themselves to him. The original meaning on that one is probably to worship only him. The second one is probably the same, only say his name in good context. he's perfect and you're not allowed to diss him. if you do you're wrong. No working on Sunday, well everyone had to go to church on sunday instead of working, i also hear that markets and churches were both located in the center and one would disrupt the other with noise pollution but it sounds a bit odd as christians usually lived in.
The others are all pretty good when you take into account we've only got the jist interpreted by some biblebashing medieval bloke and that maybe they're not worded so strongly or absolutely. primitive cultures probably used absolutes by accident a lot more than we do today though.
