Re: This world is fast becoming a pretty horrible place to live, and it's getting me a tad down.
UK sucks. CCTV-land over there
Now you even have assholes talking to you through the cameras, right? A friend of mine got told off for peeing in a dark alley at night - some !@#$ shouting that he had to get lost or pay a fine.
Since you're in the UK, here's two forums for ya:
Freeman-On-The-Land in the UK (where most of it's practices apply, read up on it!)
Survival in general, lots of great tips on how to be self-dependant in different situations
edit: fixed second link

Re: This world is fast becoming a pretty horrible place to live, and it's getting me a tad down.
We have been asked many times to live at our friends farm which is a kind of community. Many people there live in buses and caravans, they eat shared food, work x amount of hours per week, have a solar shower, compost loos, grow lots of their own food and are planning to build eco friendly houses but it's not for me.I like my privacy too much and choosing how I spend my time and there are too many internal conflicts which I couldn't possibly be bothered with.I'm sure that every community is different though and good luck to anyone who enjoys it,it just isn't my bag.

Re: This world is fast becoming a pretty horrible place to live, and it's getting me a tad down.
There is a lot of drama in a communal setting, and not much privacy, so you really don't have much chance to develop very close relationships...at least that was my experience. Although the food was terrific, after a while it's difficult to do whatever work you are assigned to do, and if you want to make a change, it can effect the whole community.
As far as your self worth? You are not a reflection of others, you are your won self, dig in and locate that center and stand tall.....
If you really want to get out an go somewhere else you will find the way, taking a chance is the hardest part, but it's very freeing.
Good luck and sorry to hear you are down in the dumps:-9

I'm so glad to find there are people on the board who have experienced a community lifestyle. I'm very happy to hear your experiences.

Yeah Dude I feel your pain dog. Its the same over here in the United States. Im 20 years young and feel prisoned in my own country. I !@#$ hate being a slave to money and following all these regulations. As I grow older I see the world changing right in front of my eyes. Im so aware of people and there disguises, or appearances they have with all this money and It brings me down all the time thinking that i have to be a character just to fit in with the crowd. This isnt no land of the free, they fu*cking lied.

Re:
We are owned by corporations... *sigh*
These days I see all of the world as a prison setting up its own invisible bars (money/economy issues (esp. stock market crashes), CCTV/surveillance cameras in major cities etc)... What will the world look like in 50 years?
